Week in Review, 310-316

~ Joined a group business coaching

~ Stopped for coffee off the 80 at one of hundreds of convenience shops. Got a cup of coffee, like I have hundreds of times before. Poured creamer from a machine, as is par. But this machine Mooooed like a cow when you were done pouring! I want one for my house.

Not quite sure how it all happened ------> Week in Review, Day 282-288

~ rode my bike to an appointment, through the streets of San Francisco. At one point around Fisherman's Wharf, I was stuck between a duck boat and the F-line above-ground train. Eek!

~ put Nevada license plates on my car. It's official.

~ sold my old car, a 1996 Honda Civic. It was the very first car I bought out of college, one that has taken me across the country, one that has taken such good care of me. It's funny to have such strong feeling for an inanimate object. Yes, I did cry a little bit, out of emotion for all the good memories and the mourning for the end of an era.


~ used Skype for a long business phone call

~ witnessed the beginning of Fleet Week


~ witnessed two cows humping (at a very different time and place than the witnessing in the photo above)

~ hiked part of the Mount Rose Summit trail



~ watched a hang glider take off from the side of a steep cliff. It involved about three long strides down the cliff, then jumping with his hopes into the wind. The courage and the faith was breathtaking.




~ ate a Qdoba, a chain similar to my favorite Chipotle. Unlike Chipotle, they have delicious nachos with meat. Yum.

~ took a business call in the car. Yes, while driving. I usually cannot do two things at once.

~ realized how important it was to solicit feedback about your business. You need objective third parties to tell you the good and the bad, so you can get even better.

New Things Happen Every Day

Day 152

If you look carefully over the last few weeks, you will see I've shirked my responsibilities. Only sporadic writing since mid-May. Alas, a person gets busy and some things must go by the way. This blog was the left on the side of the road as I sped past.

I have been doing new things. A lot of them centered around work or food. But mostly work. Lots of coffee meetings, lots of networking, lots of new contacts. Intermittent in that was good news and bad news, old friends and new stresses. I de-cluttered my mind and then filled it back up again.

New things are happening every day, I'm just no longer recording it. It seems more reasonable at this point to check in once a week. I will try my hand at one new BIG thing every week, and celebrate the smaller things as a week-in-review.

Through this project, I've learned a lot about myself. Looking back on this blog at the end of the year will be heart-warming and full of good memories. For that reason, I'm disappointed I could not keep up with it every day for one year. Hey, six months isn't too bad. Another six months of new stuff is bound to be memorable, as well - a more compact shape should not tarnish that. Look how cute and fantastic the Smart Car is.

Day 120 - Lunched with a special guest

The weather in San Francisco is not like L.A. or San Diego. Our summers are cold and foggy. The best time of year is now, and again in September. The days have been warm and sunny, making it hard to concentrate on anything.

Mr. Sound decided to work from home today. We sat silently on our respective computers for many hours, doing work. But by 1:00, we were hungry for food and a bit of sunshine. We had a great lunch on an outdoor patio, feeling lucky to have this time together.


UPDATE: I mentioned I was applying to a band. I sent some lyrics and tunage to them on Wednesday and today, got rejected. I am disappointed. Something in their post resonated with me, and I put up a bit of a fight to have them hear me live before making a final decision. We'll see.

Day 65 - Slept right through

Last thing I remember, my friend was blow-drying her hair. I fell asleep. In the two hours I was asleep, the two guys came back in from snowboarding, showered, changed, watched videos, drank beer and laughed loudly. Did I hear any of it? Nay. As if I was in the next room. But since it's a studio, I most certainly was not in the next room. It was as if someone slipped NyQuil into my water. A bit disconcerting, but man, I felt great.

Day 61 - Sported new sneakers

My navy blue Converse had died. Not dramatically, just sluggishly. My feet needed a pick-me-up, some pep in my step. So I got these, and everything is OK again.

Day 45 - Discovered music television + a recap

No, not MTV. Besides, they are not calling themselves Music Television anymore, haven't you heard?

I happened to discover the VH1 Classic station, buried way down at channel 473 here in the Bay Area. You knew I loved music, why didn't you tell me about this sooner? It greeted me in the middle of Stage Five of the Seven Stages of Rock. Could watch shows like this all day, just not on Valentine's Day.

And returning to the tradition of weekly recaps, here are some entertaining things from the last two weeks:

~ Was shushed by two old biddies at Peet's. Yes, I do laugh loudly, but c'mom, shushing a laugh?

~ Enjoyed a song by a fellow bus stop waiter, who pulled a small wooden flute out of his jacket when inspiration struck, then returned it there as soon as he was done.

Day 35 - Worked with earplugs

My thoughts have been so scattered this week, and I really needed to concentrate on some work. Earplugs of course block out noise but also allows you to hear your breathing, which is quite relaxing. It was worth a shot when nothing else seemed to focus me. Yes, this was not my most exciting day.

Day 33 - Had dinner with my cousin

This is nothing out of the ordinary for most people, but my family all lives on the east coast. So it was a great surprise when my cousin told me she was here in San Francisco for a conference! It was kind of surreal to be here with her and not back home with the rest of our family. It made my month.

Day 31 - Lots of stuff + a recap

My day was pretty productive and included a lot of new things. I put REAL SUGAR in my coffee (good idea, Steph). I went to an estate sale, but didn't find anything. I tried a new Indian restaurant for dinner and it was good. I made all new files for my business and got organized. All well and good, but not very exciting, I know.

So I guess for my new thing today I will claim a new addition to this blog. On Sundays, I will list a few of the entertaining things I fell across during the week that did not make it to its own blog post. Please enjoy.

Day 24 - Had a date in another town

Mr. Sound and I found ourselves with some free time on Sunday afternoon. We also found ourselves driving through our old stomping ground, a town we lived in for two years about 10 years ago. It has been a looong time since we've actually stopped in that suburb. So we decided to take a trip down memory lane and get dinner and a movie there. Quite a different feel than San Francisco life - surrounded by families and chain restaurants. But we had a fabulous time. And we have now finally seen Avatar, in 3D, so stop bugging us. ;-)
